STORY

The Klet Krško Winery is located in the old cellar of the Šrajbarski Turn Castle and the Auersperg family mausoleum, which dates back to 1770. There are two arms of this winery. The first side is the winery for the cooperative representing nearly 200 wine growing families form the Wine Growers Cooperative (founded in 1928), and are responsible for harvest on a total of 200 hectares of vineyards across Dolenjska wine district. The grapes are used primarily for the production of the famous Cviček (light red, naturally low in alcohol and made with the blend of red and white grapes) and sparkling wines. Klet Krško is the world's largest wine cellar of Cviček, a uniquely Slovenian wine.

The other side of the business is Klet Krško’s private vineyards of 15 hectares, located on the left bank of the Sava river of vineyards. The vineyards grow on the southern side of steep limestone, marl, sandstone and clay slopes, providing the vines with warm sunny days and cold nights which create grapes that balance ripeness and acidity: Blaufränkisch, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon.

Klet Krško’s goal is minimal intervention in the vineyards. Throughout the winter and spring months, they carefully prune the vines by hand to manage the growth/yield ratio, and ensure the highest quality of vines and grapes.
